ABOUT THE BOOK
When I learned in 2008 that Jean Houston would be leading a tour of Egypt, I immediately shifted out of my daily routine to be on that trip with her. Jean co\-founded The Foundation for Mind Research and is one of the most foremost visionary thinkers of our time. It was a powerful experience to explore the magic and mystery of ancient Egypt through her inspiration. I took the usual tourist photographs marveling at the art, the people, the architecture and the hieroglyphics.\nThe pyramid texts are the most ancient body of literature known. They were inscribed on the walls of pyramids at least three thousand years before Christ. These ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs show that an advanced science and wisdom flourished during that period. \nI became fascinated with the ancient wisdom teachings of Egypt and discovered the writings of the Egyptian Book of the Dead. According to Egyptian theology, the structure of a man is not limited to only his mortal shell and spiritual self, but is a complex and interconnected structure where his physical body, spiritual body, mental and emotional states are all connected as one spirit. \nThe readings of these ancient texts inspired me to combine them with the photographs of my tour of Egypt and create this book. The wisdom of the ancients are eternal and much of it has influenced the Western world. These teachings are based on the origin and nature of the universe that parallels the teachings of Advaita Vedanta. “Advaita” means “not two” ― not separate from the universe or from one another. These teachings of non\-duality are a philosophy which states that there is just One Eternal Spirit in existence, and that everything in the Universe is an inseparable part of it. Instead of relating to the objective world, the focal point is more expansive. This open space of awareness helps the soul live in an ease of being that is purely present, now and always.
